Terminal Diagnosis Given Over The Phone

My mother is under the Older Adults Team at Chatterton House. In 2019 she underwent a number of investigations after complaining of memory problems and word finding difficulties. In January 2020 my father who is in his 80s received a phone call from a nurse in the team informing him that my mother had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. He was then left to break the devastating news to her. Alzheimer’s is a terminal diagnosis and I’m appalled the team felt it was acceptable practice to give information of this gravity over the phone with no opportunity for discussion or support. Despite making a formal complaint the team at Chatterton house have made no attempt to make amends and offer my parents the support they need.
