The loss of Sure Start has been horrendous
The loss of Sure Start Centres has been horrendous. The difference in support between my older child and my youngest has been big.

My eldest is a fussy eater but he did a cooking course with Sure Start which really helped and we used to weigh him there too. My youngest was prem was weighed a lot less than him, after she stopped being monitored.

Her two-year health checks weren't face-to-face. We just filled in a form and sent it off which was fine for us as she's growing and we're looking af
... ter her but it makes you wonder about the babies who aren't being cared for.

No health professionals are seeing that.

Really caring
Last week the health visitors came out to our home, it had been over the phone or zoom meetings but we prefer face to face and they are really caring and helpful to us

Struggle to get in contact with anyone
We had two visits early on but felt all they did was drop off some leaflets. I suffer with my mental health and it was a worry that I would develop postnatal depression, I did not want to go back on medication as I do not like taking them but when I said that there was not another solution suggested.

I had a very unsettled baby but was just told it was normal for some babies around 4 month not to sleep. I called 6 times for help before anyone called me back and when they did they said they did
... n't have time to visit and would call back after Christmas which they never did.

I am lucky to have family around me as I feel I had no support from the Health Visitor. It was later diagnosed that my baby had reflux and was in pain.

Had no two year check
My child has just turned two and we've had no two year check at all. When I've got through to them they've been fine but I've had to contact them.

I called them and said that my son isn't talking and the day I booked an appointment to see someone he started talking. The appointment has come through quicker than I thought and quicker than they said to expect it.

I've had questionnaires from them but not actual checks.

Face-to-face checks are better than virtual
We've had health visitors out when my son was born. It was face-to-face but we had one virtual session when one of the midwives were ill.

It felt strange, hard to hold him up so they can see how he is. I requested another one that was face-to-face and she did come out.

My friend didn't know she could request a face-to-face appointment and some of the checks were missed. I was lucky because I knew what to expect since he was my second baby.

It feels like they can fob you off with virtual ap
... pointments which aren't so good if you don't know as much.

Limited support for 'lockdown babies'
Very grateful my daughter was my second child. We only had phonecalls for her check-ups so for parents who have just had their first one I can imagine they could be struggling.

Being a lockdown baby she has missed out on a lot of socialising. Her six week baby check with the GP was done over the phone.

How can you check hips and growth over the phone? We've not felt we needed the extra support since she is my second baby but compared to my first the support has been very limited.

Had nothing but in the post or had to phone
With health visitors we've had nothing but some thing in the post or you have to phone them. This means you have to know where to look. With the pandemic, all of this can be quite isolating. We've been quite lucky, it's not been my personal experience but I think other mum's have struggled.

Visits have all stopped due to COVID
Health visits have all stopped with COVID coming along. I've seen some information online but no face-to-face visits.

Since her one year review there hasn't been anything. I was told she would get reviews beyond this but they just stopped.

As a first time parent you just don't know if you're following the right information. They were supposed to happen and there's been no information about when it might start again.

I'm sure a lot of parents might feel like this. It would just be comfortin
... g to know that it's going the right way and that everything is okay.

Always there when needed
As a Mum of 6 I've often needed advice and support for various issues and The Children and Young People's Health Services have always been there whrn needed either in person or by telephone. I have been lucky to have the same Health Visitor Sally Crane since I had my first Child in 2003, she's lovely a credit to Children and Young People's Health Services.

Just One Norfolk
Just One Norfolk is a really good service. They have been brilliant and have looked at physical and emotional needs. My child does not like opening up but this has really helped with her emotions. There is also a number I can ring when I need too, which is also really helpful.
