Shambolic and negligent
Reviewing on behalf of a friend:
Rushed in to hospital with possible sepsis. The hospital tried to deal with the source of infection with antibiotics. After 2-3 weeks said that scans showed a reduction so should avoid need for surgery. Unfortunately, they were someone else's scans. Rushed into surgery. Came out with a stoma bag.
Wound nor bag changed or checked for days then obviously infected. Sent home and told to stay home but apparently their area isn't covered for daily wound dressing and
... injections so had to self administer injections and go to local GP surgery for dressings. Told to attend James Pagett for weekly check ups even though N&N closer.
Anyway, wound burst open and needed a vac suction for infection removal so back to N&N. Sent home again, then back in again.....
Too many issues to write here.
How this patient has survived this far is miraculous but safe to say, their life has changed forever and will not be able to return to the business that they run

Diabolical care
My uncle went in with a UTI and the care he received was diabolical, he died a month later. We had to beg for a drip, the following day he perked up then they took it out and he went downhill. They kept telling us his confusion and refusal to eat was from dementia but it wasn't, it was from the UTI and severe mouth ulcers.
Years before he'd had a dementia diagnosis which was later discounted as his condition was due to medication side-effects which cleared once his regime changed. The hospital
... refused to listen to any of his family when we knew what had happened with this diagnosis, and knew his usual behaviour before the infection. It was traumatic to watch him decline, it was like nobody would help us.
By the time he was discharged to a care home he'd stopped eating at the hospital and wasn't given a drip. The care home then found all the ulcers.
I genuinely feel like they wrote him off because of his age.

I can't fault them
My husband had a heart attack and I couldn't fault the hospital. The surgeon was gowned-up ready to go when the ambulance arrived and he had two stents put in. The aftercare was brilliant too. He did a six week programme with exercise classes and met others in the same boat. It was really good and he's recovered well.

Swift cataract treatment
I had my cataracts done at Spire. It was arranged quickly. I saw the optician and had an appointment two weeks later, then the second one done exactly three months after. I go next week for my check-up.

It's brilliant
I go every five weeks for treatment in urology. They book the appointments for me and it's brilliant.

Amazing, empathetic staff
My dad had a stroke and ended up on Dunston ward, and the staff were amazing. He was in a side room and they let all of the family in to see him. The night before he died they let us stay with him all night. They were really empathetic, so good.

Decent
Considering the pressure they're under my treatment was wonderful. Delayed, but great when I finally got there. All credit to the admin teams who went the extra mile.

Awful Oncology Consultant
We had the worst experience at NNUH with a Consultant. He was dismissive, rude and lacking in any empathy. Considering my relative was feeling vulnerable, he should be ashamed of himself. He also had terrible personal hygiene.

Excellent
My daughter was recently treated in A&E and later cared for on Guist Ward, and I cannot thank the team enough for the exceptional care she received.

From the moment we arrived in A&E, the staff were calm, reassuring, and incredibly professional. As a parent, it’s frightening when your child is unwell, but they made us feel supported straight away. They took the time to explain everything clearly and treated my daughter with such kindness and patience.

Nurse Ben was especially wonderful.
... He was compassionate, attentive, and went out of his way to make my daughter feel comfortable and less anxious. He spoke to her in a way that helped her feel safe and included, which meant so much to both of us. His care and professionalism truly stood out.

The team on Guist Ward were equally amazing. The ward felt clean, organised, and welcoming. Every member of staff we encountered was caring, approachable, and respectful. They worked so hard but still made time to check on us and answer any questions.

Thank you to everyone in A&E and on Guist Ward for your dedication and kindness. The care my daughter received was outstanding, and we are so very grateful.

Lovely staff
I was brought into ED in the early hours of a Sunday morning, having received excellent care and treatment by the ambulance crew.
The pit stop system now in place seems like a paper exercise to allow the trust to massage their figures, rather than a genuine attempt to increase throughput, and uses more staff.
However, every member of staff introduced themselves, was friendly, helpful and efficient. They are doing a magnificent job in spite of, rather than because of trust management. A big th
... anks to all of you on the front lines.
