Wonderful support and care from amazing staff
My husband was in end stages of alzheimers disease and was sectioned and luckily got a bed here, where he received the most wonderful care and support through to his eventual passing. I was supported and cared for in the most compassionate and supportive way through his final days.

Useless for a mental health crisis
Was previously referred for a period where I was assigned a professional help monitor my progress with mental health as an irregular outpatient service. Friendly, compassionate staff at the time, but received very little actual help and seemed to be pushed to try and self-discharge by moving onto self-help websites.

Received a letter out of the blue discharging me due to no longer fitting criteria for care and was not allowed to return, for no reason anyone could give me with GP or at Julian o
... ther than having been with them for a few months. Some months later experienced a major crisis and an unsuccessful attempt at ending my own life.

Was given an urgent care review within a few weeks from GP that was humiliating and resulted only in being told to call their hotline if things got worse and to consider self-help. When suicidal ideation returned I called the line and nobody responded.

I am sure this service is useful for some but I have been completely let down when I needed the help the most and was treated as if my serious crisis was something that I could fix with internet resources and nothing else.

Good at being bad
I am passed from person to person, each giving contradicting information to the other. Whenever i have one ‘good day’ i’m told i no longer need their help, and could be passed back to my Gp, which in turn sets me back knowing i can not get appointments with my Gp as they say it should be the mental health department dealing with me.

They promise groups or outside help that never follow through. I have been refused from one group because of my ‘mental health’ i was told i needed work
... with a psychologist and have been waiting over a year.

My carer was told they would find a group for him for ‘stepping back safely" but after telling him this for many many months he is still waiting.

When i’ve been suicidal the julian as well as the crisis time has told my carer to get me to have a bath and cup of tea, i don’t have a bath nor drink tea!

Spencer was so caring
I was seen by Spencer clinical lead for mental health. He was amazing. First time I’ve seen someone so compassionate about his job. A Good listener and a credit to you all. Shame there wasn’t more like him.

Saved my elderly mum’s life
My mum, in her 80s, had a complete breakdown. She spent 2 months in Norfolk and Norwich hospital who seemed to be clueless as to what to do.

Luckily, she was seen by a psychiatrist at the hospital, but I was told my mum could end up in Manchester or Doncaster or anywhere due to lack of beds thanks to government funding. I was so so grateful when she got a bed at Sandringham ward at Julian hospital and they LITERALLY saved her life.

They worked for months with my mum - she went from being sil
... ent and non communicative at around 4.5 stones to being 6 stones and communicating, and only when the staff and psychiatrist there were comfortable that my mum could be discharged to a care home did that happen.

I regularly visited and saw many hard working staff not only trying to help my mum, but also all the other poor lost souls there - I have never felt so moved in my life seeing those staff working so hard to help so many lost elderly people. It really puts a perspective on how lucky the rest of us are.

I will never forget those staff and how hard they work, and I can’t bear to see niggly negative comments left on feedback.

Sandringham Ward, Julian Hospital:- You saved my mum’s life, and I know you save plenty of others - Thank you so so much for doing what you do - forever in your debt xx
