My recent experience has been poor
I have struggled with the surgery not recording things on my records. I had a scan at the hospital and it took ages for the results to be properly recorded.

It also took a lot of enquiries and prompting from me to get things sorted. It caused me lots of stress.

It took over 6 weeks for the scan results to be recorded properly on my GP records and this delayed a referral. There were lots of conversations between me and the surgery and I was really stressed, at breaking point because I was una
... ble to get the information.

I would like to say that despite this Dr McKenzie is really good and I would give him a 5 star rating.

Dr Smerdon, amazing
I emailed the surgery and advised of what I needed (having had this particular procedure done previously) they emailed me with an appointment however in the meantime I also needed to add something extra. Dr Smerdon himself, emailed me back to advise he would do the two things together which I was really happy with.

Dr Smerdon was a breath of fresh air, he had old fashioned views and values and didn't speak to me as though I was an idiot. He explained everything in detail and made sure I was co
... mfortable with what he was going to do.

He didn't rush me at all. I am so pleased I've found him and told him so.

I also begged him never to leave the practice as it would be lovely to have a doctor that took the time to know you and made you feel comfortable. He was going to ring me a week later but unfortunately the call back was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances however I know he would have called if he could.

Thank you Dr Smerdon.

Contact
I have been trying to get a message to a doctor through the website which is hopelessly user unfriendly. One of the worst websites I have ever had to attempt to use. I have resorted to hand writing a note and delivering it to the surgery.

Unresponsive & Unhelpful
You cannot book or even request an appointment out of hours. You hold on the phone for quarter of an hour only to have the call cut off without a response.

A week after requesting a call with a doctor, no contact whatsoever. If the aim of the exercise is to put barriers patients' way in the hope that some of them will give up & go away, then even on that criterion they are failing.

Impossible t make a routine appointment
The oractice does not accept walk in enquiries. Cannot get through on telephone and also work in NHS on 12.5 hr shifts so unable to call easily. No facility on website to book an appointment in advance.

Excellent Service and Friendly Staff
I called in as I was passing The Wootton’s Surgery, and asked the receptionist if I could make an appointment for a triage appointment with the Asthma Specialist. She kindly arranged this by fitting me in within 10 minutes on the same day, due to a cancellation.

The asthma specialist was so thorough and he literally took all tests needed to help with my asthma and also checked other medical queries and took my bloods, due to me missing my previous blood test due to having covid a few weeks a
... go. The next day I was contacted by my surgery at Southgates, informing me of my results and treatment was put in place.

The NHS have taken a lot of criticism recently but these NHS surgeries and their staff have been very professional, thoughtful and thorough In supporting their patients.

Thank you

Changed
I have personally had no issues or difficulties when dealing with The Woottons Southgates practices. I find the online system very useful however I believe that there are also many ways that the system can be improved further.

The way I connect with my doctor or health care professionals has changed and for a 33 year old many of these changes have been positive. Being able to request my repeat prescriptions through NHS app is so much faster and hassle free than before.

The ability to send a
... quick message to receptionist during the day is also ideal. Sadly I understand that due to a lack of common sense the system has had to be closed in the evenings when there is no one available to monitor it.

Maybe some kind of link up to 111 is necessary.

Good or awful
The on line service is good when it works but so many times it doesn't and then it is awful. Getting a HRT prescription is so difficult.

The HRT form is not an option on the repeat medication section so took numerous messages before that was sent to me. Then given different messages about whether I needed a clinical call.

When told by pharmacy they would send the prescription to my pharmacy, they didn't. Now can't get through to the pharmacy on phone.

Terrible experience
When I arrived you can't get in, I felt so stupid, I had to ask another patient how to get in. The instructions to get in are behind you when you're at the door. This could be an unpleasant experience for others, especially if they're struggling with mental health.
