Sent an ambulance, didn't make sense

Called 111 for my 3 year old who has asthma and seemed to have bad chest was breathing okay but wheezing. They sent an ambulance but it didn't show up for an hour so I called back and they said it would be a 6 hour wait so I cancelled and decided to book a doctors appointment first thing. Nothing about the experience made sense! I said I would transport my son to the hospital myself rather than send for an ambulance. When I got to the doctors the next day I showed nurse a video of my son wheezing and she said if he is like that again, just go straight to A & E if it is evening/weekend.
