Duty of care to patients

My mother lies in James Paget hospital dying because the doctor was waiting for bloods which we had to wait for the district nurse to do , when I rang as relative/carer the receptionist told me the doctor was on annual leave I asked her was covering his patients because I was very concerned for my mother, told to go on line and someone from triage would get back to be I advised my mother is 85years of old I was then told I could do it, unfortunately I was calling from work so didn’t have the facility to do it, receptionist very abrupt/ no empathy I wonder how she would feel if it was her mother, by the weekend my mother was taken into James Paget hospital with kidney failure, obstruction to the bowels she is laying in the bed beside me dying - duty of care ???
