Sepsis wasn't treated quickly enough

My husband underwent an operation for colon cancer two years ago, which we were initially told would be a minor procedure. On the day however, the surgeons found reason to make a larger incision which subsequently resulted in my husband contracting sepsis and dying in intensive care. Whilst the staff in the ICU were great, there was a delay identifying the infection and transferring him to the unit. I think things might have been different if he was transferred to the ICU sooner, but there just wasn't any room. It's not the staff's fault, and the meeting I had with a member of staff on the ward after his death was also very good.
