Identify those who have suffered a stroke
31st May 2017An idea for the hospital would be to better identify those who have suffered a stroke. It takes me much longer to answer a question and sometimes, I will say yes when I mean no. This has caused a couple of communication issues with nurses. I think it would be worthwhile reminding staff how difficult it is to respond quickly to questions. There should be someone expert in engaging with those who have had a stroke available in the hospital, a volunteer or someone who has the time to listen. Not the fault of the nurses. They are extremely busy.

Excellent care
31st May 2017We received excellent care. My husband and I were taken to hospital by ambulance having returned form our holiday both suffering with chest pain and breathing problems. We both received antibiotics immediately. The staff were extremely reassuring and kind.

Not listened to before surgery
31st May 2017Did not feel that the midwife listened to me when I felt the baby had moved and was not in the correct position. I had to have an emergency caesarean. The care received after my caesarean was excellent but leading up to this I felt the person dealing with me could have listened better.

More patience from staff please
31st May 2017I struggle to say yes and no when making decisions due to my stroke which caused me to lose some of my brain functioning. I felt that the nurse who treated me had no patience. When she asked me if I wanted a tea, she walked away because I took so long to respond. Things like this happened on a regular basis. More patience please!

Treatment by staff made me feel unwelcome
31st May 2017I felt the staff were too busy to spend time with me; I felt the attitude of one member of staff was poor. It felt like it was my fault that I was unwell.

2 hours to complete forms

Developed life long friends
31st May 2017After having a stroke I was put into the early release scheme with 12 weeks of physiotherapy. We made a bargain that I was going to be walking by Christmas. The physiotherapist gave me such belief in myself and my ability to get better. I've developed life long friends from the James Paget Hospital.

Poor communication
31st May 2017The coordination between the hospital and the Stroke Association is poor. When I had a stroke I felt very vulnerable. Nobody told me about the Stroke Association. I heard about this place from a friend. The Hospital needs to work better with this charity.

Great service
31st May 2017I was extremely nervous about giving birth but the midwife and staff made me feel as comfortable as I was going to be. I'm extremely thankful to the staff there.
