Didn't get the support I needed
30th July 2019I didn't get the support I needed. They weren't helpful and didn't understand how I felt. It was a youth group and was very loud. The counsellor left within two sessions for another job and that meant I didn't get the help I needed. I'd already been through so many different counsellors in high school and the place where my good counsellor worked closed down so I lost that support too.

There for absolutely everything
28th February 2019MAP are there for absolutely everything. They helped me put my situation in to perspective and make practical steps. Whatever your problem, there is someone here that knows how to help. I think the age limit should be lifted, the gap after you're 25 can be quite dangerous, but they're an absolute godsend.

Have made so much progress with MAP
28th February 2019MAP have really helped by pushing for me to receive treatment, and building up my confidence through their group activities. I had negative preconceptions about mental health services after my experience with CRHT team, but MAP are different. When I first went to the MAP centre I started having a panic attack in the communal area, but because there were other service users around someone spotted it and helped me to calm down before it got any worse. The group stuff is also brilliant; I've done climbing, photography and have gone to social groups with MAP - it's a great reason to get out of the house. It's always a really open atmosphere and you know you can talk to anyone, I've made so much progress since starting here.

Will do anything for you
28th February 2019I started receiving support from MAP last year when I was really stuck my mental health and drug dependency. It didn't take long before they had helped me to get on top of things, they'll do anything for you. I was assigned a support worker, who sent me to see a counsellor at MAP. It's been really good to generally talk it through, so I'm going to continue with it. Ideally I'll be able to see her every 2 weeks; I think once a month isn't frequent enough, but weekly probably isn't necessary. As well as counselling my support worker sorted out food vouchers for me, which I really needed. It's great that you can just drop in to MAP, it's really free and open. I think that's what is so off-putting about NHS services - they're not welcoming.

Job club really useful
28th February 2019The MAP job club has been really useful in helping me to find work after a terrible period of mental health difficulties. I'm sad that next year I'll be too old to access their services, but I'll definitely be stopping by to say hello to all the staff who have taken time to listen to me over the years.

Instantly made me feel comfortable
28th February 2019I've been using MAP since 2015, it's a brilliant place. The counselling is was really good, they instantly made me feel comfortable. Everything's been good to be honest, there's such a variety of things to be involved in. For example, one day I took part in a group where we did some research around mental health services elsewhere in the country and how they compare to Norfolk. As we all had experience using services it was an interesting task. They also run social groups which are good. MAP are good at including everyone, but there's no pressure take part if you don't want to.

Real sense of community
28th February 2019There's a real sense of community here. The 'regulars' that come in are a great bunch and everyone's so approachable, you can just come in, make a cup of tea and feel safe. I struggled coming here to begin with because of my anxiety, but it didn't take long to settle in.

Very understanding
13th June 2017It took a while to get an appointment but when I received help from MAP for my mental health the counsellor was excellent. They really do understand young people and the pressure's we face. I also attend hospital appointments. I really think people from MAP should talk to people who work in hospitals and doctors so they talk to young people in the same way.
