Denied antibiotics for my daughter with strep

I sent pictures of my daughters throat this morning and explained my younger daughter has strep and I was sure this daughter had it too and requested the same antibiotics she is on. Nurse practitioner called me, told me it was a viral infection, I explained she shares a room with my infected daughter. She asked me if my the daughter I was calling about had a cough, I replied yes. She said then there is no way it is strep, strep does not give a cough. I replied, that’s not true as my younger daughter who was diagnosed at the hospital with strep has a cough which is why I was worried this had spread to my other daughter. She retorted the Strep throat is not infectious through cough only the scarlet fever type is infectious that way, the only way you can catch strep if by contact with the actual phlegm. She told me I couldn’t have antibiotics as this was a risk of resistance, I explained I understood that risk and wouldn’t ask if I didn’t think it was needed, she told me no paracetamol, ibo and salt water rinse it’s a virus. Gave up arguing with her, This daughter was still really unwell by dinner time I decided to take her to the hospital, sure enough the GP there diagnosed her with Strep. She was so angry at the nurse when I told her what had happened. She said this is totally against what the guidance is at the minute; to give antibiotics. How many more parents has this horrendously ill informed nurse spoken to today and told them it’s just a virus and denied them potentially life saving antibiotics???!!!! It’s a travesty, she needs educating ASAP. Shame I didn’t catch her name, but Millwood Surgery nurse practitioner.
