Not treated as an individual

I regard the Dentist`s & Hygenist`s to be competent professionals but always come out after a visit to this practice feeling I`ve been not treated as an individual, who knows his own mind & body. I often feel I`ve been railroaded into having treatment for things that I`d not really wanted. For instance I recently attended for treatment of a severe gum infection but ended up being forced into having root canal surgery on a tooth that was completely unrelated to the gum complaint that I originally went to see the dentist about. Yes I agree to a point that prevention is better than cure but the tooth wasn`t infected (though it potentially could of become infected at any point in the future), so why was I pressured into having this procedure?? Its not what the appointment was about. Also I expressed a wish that dental anesthetic shouldn`t be used, because it simply didn`t work on me- which it doesn`t (& didn`t in this instance either!!) this was dismissed with the reply that many people say that! Yes well I say it because you know what? - it's the truth. Once more I`ve come away from this place feeling a little more angry & resentful, though of course I would commend the practitioners here as very skillful at what they do, perhaps a bit more `bedside manner` is required.
