Respite provision for children

Respite provision for children with physical disabilities is under resourced and has recently been cut by merging two groups together. The impact of this is very significant; it means there are only 7 nights respite provision for families over the 6 weeks holidays. The families we offer respite to are often at breaking point. We need more of these services not less. The outcome will be that more children go into care which we need to avoid. The eligibility criteria is now far too high. Families only get respite if the child in their care is fed through a tube or has very complex needs.
