Adult Social Services - parents need support

Until recently I worked in social care for the last 10 years and being able to find support for people in complete crisis was always very difficult. Getting assessments carried out for adults with learning disabilities was a particularly common problem and potential placements would often fall through while families were waiting, creating further safeguarding issues. In my particular role I could always get through to speak to someone, but parents would often be in total crisis and not able to speak to anyone. This can have a massive impact on their own mental health. We can all go home at 5 but they are dealing with highly complex individuals 24/7. There are lots of people doing good work but everything is incredibly stretched, including additional services like nursing and mental health etc. and this is what causes problems. It's the parents that need the support!
