    Poor care for carers

I was refused a flu jab on the basis that I do not get Carer's Allowance. That's because I work (mainly from home for obvious reasons). The NHS site says that carers can have a flu jab if they get CA 'or are the main carer for a person with a disability'. I am not only the main but the only carer for both my adult children with learning disabilities, who live with me. The surgery knows this as I bring them every year for their Learning Disability Health Check, I informed them that I was a carer six years ago when we joined the practice, and there is a letter on my daughter's file to say that I should be involved in decisions about her care. I had a flu jab last year. Why this concerns me so much is not for myself at all but fear about what would happen to my children if I were too ill (or worse) to care for them. I have tried to explain to the surgery that they have misunderstood the guidance, but they would not listen. I am part of several networks involving carers of disabled young people and know that friends in an identical situation at other surgeries have not been refused.
