Cervical screening experience

At my previous screening 3 years earlier, the nurse was unable to take the smear. I had to return for a try with another nurse. This was unsuccessful too. I was then referred to the gynaecologist & saw him at the North Cambs hospital in Wisbech. He took the smear & all was well. When I was called this year I asked at my gp surgery if I could be referred to the consultant straight away. This was denied. I was told they had to try before I could be referred. So an appointment was booked, I attended & the nurse couldn’t do it. No surprise there! So I was referred to the consultant again. As I needed to have a Myrena coil removed too I was advised this would all be done at the same time. However, at my first appointment the consultant was rather intimidating, he had a student with him too. He tried to do the smear but was unsuccessful. I then had another appointment. At this time the coil was removed by another consultant . I was told I had to return for the smear test. Two weeks later I saw yet another consultant who carried out the smear test. Finally received my results & all clear. I just feel that if my GP surgery had referred my in the first instance to a consultant who could carry out both procedures at the same time I would have saved the NHS a considerable amount of time and money. Thank goodness that was the last smear test I will need.
