Doctor is wonderful

I am one of hundreds in King's Lynn who see the threatened relocation of St James House Surgery to an inaccessible and remote part of the town with alarm, distress and anxiety. My doctor is brilliant. He listens, he looks at you when you are talking instead of his keyboard and screen, (like so many do - you know who you are), he isn't didactic and proscriptive, he see the patient as a partner in their own care, you can negotiate with him and above all he is thorough. The proposal to relocate the surgery to North Lynn away from the town centre where most of the surgery patients live is lunacy. What blind unthinking idiot could possibly think this would be either acceptable or a good idea? We have an excellent surgery, my doctor is probably the best they have in our experience, but it is within walking distance and means we can easily make an appointment and keep it. If we have to get a car there, not only will it increase traffic congestion, it will add to the air pollution levels that already exceed EU limits and for which the local council are going to be fined. By attempting to solve one problem the NHS will be compounding and adding to another. By making people walk a long way, for those who haven't a car or can't afford one of our very expensive taxis, the NHS will be compounding suffering. Patients often struggle with stamina, and relocating the practice outside the accessible limits of their stamina just adds insult to injury. I hope the NHS rethinks and listens to local people (though I doubt it will). Next door to the surgery is Vancouver House, a three level structure with a lift, wide corridors, structurally sound, and with a car park. Perfect for an expanding surgery. The NHS should go into negotiation and occupy that instead of creating widespread distress.
