Elderly carers need more support

In a lot of circumstances, an elderly person can become a carer if their partner falls ill with a condition like dementia. We had a lady - who was well in to her 80s - that used to bring her husband to our day centre. They would come in every week, and it was really noticeable that as his condition deteriorated, so did she. She was getting thinner and was obviously stressed. An elderly person shouldn't have to be in that sort of position, so more support is needed for them to look after their partner without burning out themselves. One option is longer day centres, run by trained people that actually know how to deal with dementia.
