Poorly managed with no set protocols

My father was place at this facility earlier this year after his Alzheimer’s made it to difficult for him to remain at home. He had a number of serious falls and 3 CT scans in 60 days. He was finally placed on an end of life care plan, which was poorly managed and I was questioned by members of staff as to whether this was fair to him, which given the circumstances was extremely distressing. In the last 2 days before he died he was clearly in pain and we were forced to insist on the district nurse visiting to manage his pain medication, on one occasion he waited over 11 hours even though the directive on file from the doctor said every 4 hours. We my father finally died, the staff refused to allow the funeral director to collect the body for 8 hours. He was left in his room with his medication pump still working for all this time! There are a few members of staff who truly cared and understood our pain, but sadly the manager and deputy manager were more concerned about the money we were paying for his “care”. My father’s doctor has told the family that there are lessons to be learnt from his care and treatment.
