Good experience talking to a group of similar young people regarding mental health and sexual identity.

I’ve got schizophrenia and general anxiety disorder and they’ve been able to help me with my self-harming and with my anxiety in crowds. They’ve provided me with coping mechanisms for when I get nervous in crowds. I just put on my head phones and drown everybody out!

Excellent service. None of the staff were judgmental which gave me the confidence to open up.

The service is very underfunded and stretched but I wish the staff could keep their promises. I wish the staff could have kept contact.

I felt that the service I was offered wasn’t right for me and was more directed at older adult. I wasn’t offered any other service that was a better for me.

The Wellbeing service really helped me

I have had 3 stents fitted following a heart attack. It took 9 months for me to be referred to the Wellbeing service. The GP put me straight onto tablets for a year which I did not find helpful. I had been suffering anxiety attacks linked to my surgery. The Wellbeing service really helped me. I think nurses and doctor should be more aware that surgery is a traumatic experience and might lead to mental health issues.

They sat and listened to me without judgement. It’s amazing that we have a service that provides a stranger to talk to. I wouldn’t feel comfortable talking to a friend or family about my issues.

I’m a carer and it’s affected my mental health. I’ve become very depressed and anxious. I was sent to the Wellbeing service by my GP and discovered a lifeline for myself. I owe my life to Wellbeing. It forced me to have time for me. I feel like myself again

I didn't know you could self-refer

I think that the mental health team is good and helpful. The only downside is that there isn’t enough advertisement about them and how to receive help. I didn’t even know that you could self-refer.

My mother, who is 75 years old suffers with depression and anxiety and has panic attacks. The GP referred her to the wellbeing service. She did not attend because the option was to attend a group setting. For someone with severe anxiety going somewhere new is difficult for them. Also, it does not feel tailored enough- there are things that triggered my mum's depression specifically. She did not feel a group situation would help.

Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry to hear that your mum did not feel that she was offered support that was tailored to her needs. We have a number of options within the service and these can be accessed via workshops or on a one-to-one basis (face to face, via telephone or Skype and online). If an individual does not feel that a group is suitable, there should always be the option of accessing support on a one-to-one basis. If this was not the case for your mum, we would be very keen to discuss it to ensure that learning takes place.
