NHS dentist should be able to provide all

I went to my local NHS dentist for a fairly routine filling when it was discovered that I had a more serious issue with the crown of my teeth. The dentist informed me that he couldn't provide the service for me and that I would have to go private or go to London to get assessed. I don't want to go private, the NHS dentist should be able to provide the service.
