Overall good service
22nd March 2018I had my first and third children in the delivery suite, my second was midwife led. For my most recent birth, the midwives were fine. Overall it was a good service. After my child was born, I was stuck in the birthing room with no chair and no bed for hours, which was uncomfortable. The staff were so busy. I saw different midwives at different GP surgeries. I was assigned a lead midwife but it often wasn’t her at appointments. It would be better for consistency to see the same one. Post-birth I felt I had good support from midwives if I needed it.

They cope amazingly well
22nd March 2018I gave birth at the NNUH. I didn’t have a birth plan and moved to the delivery suite due to irregular heart rate. I had the same midwife throughout birth and she was very good and kept me calm. They are so busy and stretched, they cope amazingly well. Pre-birth I saw midwives at various GP surgeries in south Norfolk. In the most part I saw the same midwife but sometimes saw student midwives. It’s quite nice to see the same one, although you don’t get different opinions. After birth I had a few appointments and got some breastfeeding support.

Many issues around care
22nd March 2018I moved to South Norfolk while pregnant with my son. I gave birth at the NNUH over a bank holiday weekend, it was obviously short staffed or running with a skeleton crew. During birth I was repeatedly told that an anaesthetist would be coming soon for pain relief, but this never arrived, and I later found out there was only one anaesthetist working that shift. I had complications during the birth that weren’t noticed for a long time. I was then moved from to delivery suite from the ward. The surgery was noticeably dirty and they had to clean it before I could go in. The staff that were with me were amazing, it’s just there was not enough staff working to cover everything. Before birth I saw community midwives at GP surgeries in South Norfolk. This is difficult if you don’t drive, as they aren’t close to each other. I was assigned the same midwife throughout but often saw student midwives and not her. It would be great to have continuity, which feels missed sometimes. After birth I had some issues with midwife care. The midwife looked at my scar from birth, and insisted that it was okay. I was then rushed to hospital days later because of it. When I spoke to her she said it wasn't her problem. I also saw the lead midwife at another surgery. She told me my breastfeeding technique was disgusting. She also told my partner that I had post-natal depression but didn’t actually offer me any support.

Overall good
19th March 2018I have had two children at the hospital. I used the delivery suite for the first. The midwives were great and attentive the first time round. With my second child I was sort of left to my own devices. The second time round, the hospital was very understaffed, and I didn’t actually get any pain relief during birth, because there were no anaesthetists available. This isn’t the staffs fault, they done what they could for me. I didn’t see many community midwives when I had my first child. I was living in Norwich at the time. I felt more looked after in South Norfolk. I could go to my GP surgery to see midwives. I saw different ones each time, which we didn’t mind too much. It would be nice for consistency if you could see the same midwives, as long as you had an option to change if you wanted to.

Children's waiting area is great
12th March 2018My son who has ASD condition broke his arm falling off his bed. He had an x-ray at the hospital, there is a separate waiting area for children which is great. My son isn't good with hospitals and long waits but the hospital were very accommodating.

The consultants are fantastic..
12th March 2018The consultants at the hospital are fantastic with my son, who has ASD. The questions are simple and he understands the difficulties surrounding treating people with ASD. He is very good. The nurses aren't quite so good, they are usually rushed and phrase questions in a bad way for someone with ASD.

Frustrating missed diagnosis
12th March 2018My son has dyspraxia and we saw someone at the hospital when he was 5 years old, who told us nothing was wrong. We have gone back to the hospital at age 10 and the same consultant has confirmed he does have dyspraxia. This has been frustrating trying to access support during that time. The SEN at the school were our main support during this time.

Care is amazing
12th March 2018My daughter has braces. The care she has received is amazing. I can call them directly if we have any issues. She has stayed in the ward previously and that is great too. They are awesome.

Very professional
12th March 2018I broke a bone in my foot and was referred by my GP for an x-ray (where they discussed the break). All of the staff that I came into contact with (radiographer, nurses, consultant) were very professional. My only grumble was that I waited in A&E for 2.5 hours as they had misplaced my notes/x-ray.
