Been waiting a year so far

I have borderline personality disorder and have been waiting a year for a review or support. I was told it would be three months and as yet, I've heard nothing.

Care could be first class

I used to work for NSFT. The care that can be given is first class. There just isn't enough resource and facility for community and outreach work. It's a shame.

Thank you for sharing you experience as a previous employee of NSFT. It is a shame that resources available are limited, as this does in essence impact the care and support provided to service users. Access to more funding and the recruitment of staff are key factors.
If you would like to know more about how we are tackling these problems, you can keep up to date by reading the minuets or attending the Public Board of Directors meetings. These happen across Norfolk and Suffolk and you can find out more by following this link: http://nsft.nhs.uk/About-us/Pages/BOD-public-meetings.aspx
CAMHS

My 9 year old daughter has learning disabilities and was showing signs of self-harming and violent thoughts. The school highlighted some issues and we were referred to CAMHS. After a review it was decided that she didn't fit the criteria they had in place and were not offered any support or help.

Struggle for dual diagnosis

I care for someone with learning disabilities and we really struggle to get a dual diagnosis. He has been pigeon-holed as having autism but there's lots going on. They should be more flexible about how they view mental health conditions in people who have autism or learning disabilities.
Reply from Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT)
We are sorry to read that someone you support has had difficulty getting a dual diagnosis. It is really useful to get feedback from a carer, If you have any further concerns about this, I would encourage you to speak to staff, or making contact with our Patient Advice Liaison Service (PALS). PALS provide help when you need information or advice about mental health, have concerns or are not sure who to turn to for help.

Not enough support, quick enough

One of my teenagers has had moderate mental health issues throughout her teenage years and in school. There were was never enough support, never quick enough. We got her help privately and into red balloon, a special support school. All the teachers are trained counsellors. The problem with NHS mental health care is not the staff, it's funding.

Thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback. We acknowledge that the waiting times for accessing support needs to be addressed. We hope further recruitment drives from our Recruitment Team will encourage more people to choose Norfolk & Suffolk Foundation Trust as their employer.
CAMHS - Inflexible system

Submitted by Anonymous12th June 2018
The system isn't flexible enough for peoples' needs. The clinicians are every caring, and the people you see are good, it's not their fault. My son can't follow the linear plans put in place for his development. There are other ways to work towards his goals and Compass have been amazing.

We are pleased to hear that staff at Compass have helped your son work towards accomplishing his goals. Your feedback is helpful and it has been passed on to relevant staff within the Trust.
CAMHS - Very good

I work with young people that have accessed support at Mary Chapman house. They can get regular access to support, and people even go into the schools to see students. I have to say, after what you hear in the press, I was pleasantly surprised by the services offered.

It is good to hear that the young people you work with have had positive experiences accessing support. Thank you for sharing this feedback, it will be passed onto staff at Mary Chapman House.
CAMHS

I am a secondary school teacher, and have seen an increase in students with mental health issues over the past 9 years since starting teaching. Many students at the school with on-going issues are left without social workers or any support. There's no consistency at all and it's harming a lot of young people. There is a real issue around how care is given to young people who are 16-18 years old.
Reply from Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT)
Thank you for sharing this feedback about CAMHS services in Norfolk. It is recognised that accessing timely support within this Trust can take longer than expected due to the staffing levels within our Trust, and increased numbers of referrals we receive. I would recommend that if there are any immediate concerns regarding one of your pupils, or if they have concerns about the level of support being provided. They can discuss this with the Patients Advice & Liaison Service ( PALS), to see if their concerns can be resolved. PALS provide help when you need information or advice about mental health, have concerns or are not sure who to turn to for help.

CAMHS - No support

Submitted by Anonymous24th May 2018
My son has ongoing mental health problems and we were referred to CAMHS as an urgent case. We were supposed to hear within one week, and we didn't hear anything from them for two months. They came to our family home to do an assessment, which was a waste of time. They wrote a letter to us weeks after the visit, to say that if my son didn't contact them in the next three weeks, they would close the case. My son doesn't always accept that he needs help and so didn't engage with their staff. Our case was closed. My GP wrote another urgent request on our behalf but this was rejected.
My stepdaughter has been self-harming and struggling with her mental health. She has a case worker at school who she sees once a week, but it's not proper mental health support. We have been on the NSFT waiting list since November for counselling. I'e started to pay to get private sessions because she needs the support as soon as possible.

If you do have any further concerns regarding your daughter experience, and would like to talk it through with staff, you can make contact with our Patients Advice & Liaison Service ( PALS). PALS provide help when you need information or advice about mental health, have concerns or are not sure who to turn to for help.
