Used to be good
12th November 2020In the past was very good, now many of doctors don’t listen to the patient and to book an appointment is horrible. Used to have a great online service, but not using anymore. I am thinking to change for a more far way health centre because they are making so difficult, and cannot use coronavirus excuse as the problem started before that. I don’t have time for spending on telephone calls... need an urgent plan to better for us patients!!!!

New online requesting
29th October 2020I have been in contact with the dispensary regarding a request I have. Spoke to a dr who I believe didn’t tell the dispensary the correct information. I received an email about something completely different to what I needed. Now trying to call the surgery been on the line21 minutes and 5th in the queue. I don’t understand why when you fill a form in that explains your enquiry, that a response to your question isn’t sent in reply however you get a completely different answer when you haven’t asked for that. Can’t see how filling in a form is any good, sometimes you don’t even get a reply so you have to call anyway to check they received the request. I know everyone is under a lot of pressure at the moment, but it’s simply patient care to at least reply with the correct information. I was told I would get a call from the dispensary, that hasn’t happened either. And to be honest my request is a simple one. By the time I get through the dispensary will be closed. Also don’t know why they ask you which dr you would like to talk to, because a few times I’ve spoken to a dr who isn’t the one I asked for.

No communication
22nd September 2020I used the website to ask for a call back on Friday 18th Sept. I received a message later that day saying I would have a ringback from a GP on Tuesday 22nd. I suffer with chronic pain and needed furthur analgesia prn. There was no phonecall on the Tuesday afternoon. My pain levels by this point were extremely bad. I had to take my son to the surgery that evening and as I was there I asked the receptionist what had happened to my call back. I was informed that the GP was self isolating and had called in sick and her calls had been reallocated. My call back would now be on Thursday 24th. No one had bothered to tell me. If I hadn't gone with my son, I wouldn't have known. I was in tears. I told the receptionist that i was very unhappy. She shrugged at me. After my son's appt. I spoke to a different receptionist and asked how I complained. I was still visibly upset. She looked again at the request and moved it to the next day's callback list. But had I not gone with my son, this wouldn't have happened and I would still have had no idea what was going on. Plus I was unable to find a complaints form on the website, so I have resorted to using this.

Nurse and Patient
5th September 2020As a nurse I probably have high expectations, I also now work in a Rival GP practice as advanced nurse practitioner. Southgates provides a really good service. I have never had an issue getting any appointment- if it’s not urgent then yes, it will be a few weeks wait but that’s fine. For when I have actually been ‘unwell’ have always had a callback on the same day for assessment and then the doctor/ nurses decides if they need me to come in and be seen. Very efficient And helpful reception staff, GP’s who are easy to talk to. The days of seeing the same GP etc are long gone, healthcare has changed and dealing with GP surgeries all over Norfolk, Southgates is way ahead and better managed than most. Well done!

Good GP
16th March 2020My GP took my concerns very seriously and talked to me at length about the possibility of my symptoms being prostate cancer. I was referred immediately to the hospital and this happened very quickly.

Cancer diagnosis
17th February 2020I saw a GP at Southgates on several occasions but I was finally admitted to hospital where I was told I had cancer. I had to be very persistent to get anyone to take my symptoms seriously.

Short waiting time for appointments
21st January 2019It usually only takes week to get an appointment, and the Dr Ariffin is really good when I see her. I've not got a bad word to say!

Can't get appointments
31st October 2018You can't get appointments here. You are talking weeks to see someone for routine. Much longer than other practices in the area. They are pretty good in emergency though.

Explaining myself a lot
16th April 2018I've been using the surgery for years. Over the last few years it's been harder to get appointments. I feel like I have to explain myself a lot. With ongoing problems, I've seen different GP's which made it difficult.
