Dear Anonymous I'm not quite sure where you get your information from for your comments, as we release our pre-bookable appointments 2, 3, 7, 14, and 28 days before the appointments date, with some specialist healthchecks being booked 35 days out, given the need to ensure specialist equipment is available. The reception team are acting within NHS England's Active Signposting initiative, to ensure that the appointment is with the right person, and for the right length of time. I am sorry if you find this 'intrusive', but that is the way the NHS has moved nationally, to a more segmented approach. Active Signposting is one of NHS England's 10 High Impact Actions (HIA) to make GP surgeries sustainable in the years ahead. Such actions are necessary to maintain patient care and safety - you may have read recently that a group of organisations is calling for extra funding for the NHS to the tune of an extra £4bn each year for the next few years. Without such actions as the 10 'HIA's', all surgeries would be unsustainable going forward. Finally, we operate 100-130 'sameday' appointments each day as well as many more pre-bookable appointments. Some of these appointments may indeed be with a nurse - but only if that is the most appropriate person for your needs, for example, for an injection or dressing change. It would be wholly inappropriate to see a Doctor for such needs. I hope that helps further inform your views on the way we operate at Thorpewood. Ian Wilson Practice Manager

Dear Anonymous Thank you for your 5 star rating of Thorpewood and the comments about your thoughts on your Doctor. With regard to the appointment availability, we do release pre-bookable appointments at 3 separate times during a day, and normally daily (excepting those for the day just before/just after a Bank Holiday, where these are all 'sameday' appointments). This release pattern has been established following patient feedback over the years that its preferred to have a range of release dates/times for pre-bookable appointments rather than all the appointments for one week to be released together. Therefore we release appointments 2, 7, 14 or 28 days forward a couple of times during the working day. As I type this reply there are pre-bookable appointments, both online and bookable through reception, available in two days time for patients' use as needed, but I do understand this availability varies dependent on when you are calling/visiting to book. Thanks again for your comments. Ian Wilson Practice Manager

Dear Anonymous Thank you for your comments; your views on those not attending their appointments are shared by many across the UK - there are a vast number of appointments not used for this reason on a daily basis in the UK, and this is a real waste of the valuable NHS resource. As regards the timescales for your blood test results, I am not sure of the exact circumstances, but 5 weeks does seem a very long time for test results to take to come through. If you would wish me to investigate further please use the complaints process via the practice website or reception team. Thank you again for your comments, which I was sorry to read, and I hope that we are able to provide you with a more timely service in the future.
