Thank you for your online review and I am sorry that you feel our service levels have fallen below what is expected. The Surgery offer face to face appointments and home visits and have done throughout the pandemic. All patients are triaged by a Clinician and they use their experience and clinical judgement to offer the most suitable appointment type. If you wish to discuss these matters further, please do contact me so I can gain some further understanding of the situation. Kind regards Catriona Dack Acting Practice Manager -
Efficient Practice
20th January 2023This is my second recent visit in a few months, and once again I have been very pleased with the service I have received. It is a very busy surgery and yet the receptionists are all very friendly and helpful, and my consultation was very rewarding and professional. Dr Hampsheir really listened to my concerns and was thorough in his explanations.

Thorpewood
11th January 2023At the end of 2021, I was diagnosed with work related anxiety and depression and have been supported since then by Dr Hampsheir, Dr Nnene and by the Mental Health Practitioner Karen, either by telephone consultations or face-to-face appointments. All three professionals have shown continual understanding, support, empathy throughout my regular appointments during this very difficult journey so far. I am so grateful for their professionalism, knowledge and continual encouragement and support to enable me take positive steps for my recovery and future. I have always felt listened to and dealt with compassionately. Often, we do not acknowledge or praise others' that are doing their job so well, so simply, Thank you'.

Thank you for the time in leaving the Surgery feedback. I apologise if you are not satisfied with the referral position. I do not have enough information to investigate this, but I can say that the situation would be dependent on what you are presenting with and the process the Doctor has to adhere to in order to make a referral. Thank you again. Andy Cutting Practice Manager -
Went downhill so quickly
26th November 2022When we first moved to the area, we selected Thorpewood as it was closest to us, and the receptionist was very helpful. Our first few months were fantastic- we were seen when needed, prescriptions were organised without a problem, all staff were friendly and caring. Fast forward to COVID… we needed vaccinations, and were refused. Appointments elsewhere seemed to be back up and running, but neither my husband or I were able to access the care we needed from Feb 2020 onwards. Then I fell pregnant (Sep 2020), and with underlying health conditions anyway- my care under the hospital continued (thank god- because there wasn’t a chance I was getting seen by a GP). Whilst being looked after by a team of consultants, my medication changed when I was 11 weeks pregnant- the hospital consultant wrote to the GP for authorisation, I assumed all was in hand and went to collect the prescription, to be provided with my old medication. Pharmacy told me to consult dr, so I call Thorpewood, and get the usual receptionist (who I assume isn’t medically trained on my condition, based on our conversation), telling me that the hospital consultant was wrong, and I’m not allowed the medication I should have Received… I’m told I can’t speak to the GP, and I must make do. I go back to the consultant and explain, they tell me they can write again, and do so. The exact same loop happens again. Go back to the consultant a 3rd time who decides to call GP- GP confirms to consultant it will be approved. GP then phoned me and tells me I don’t need it!! Call the consultant a 4th time, who then has to call the GP again, and explain to them why this medication is essential for me during pregnancy, and I finally get access to it. At this point I was left with huge anxiety about the rest of my pregnancy, and the care my newborn would have in the future, so I decide to move to another surgery. My husband remained with them for another year- and could not access care once in that time. So when he needed critical care we decided to move him too. I’ve seen a few posts saying things are improving, if this is true, I wonder if this is a result of people leaving? If so, based on this I would recommend not joining- as today we received a request to join the surgery so It seems they are doing a recruitment drive! However, I would also take these reviews saying there have been improvements with a pinch of salt, as we have neighbours who are still with Thorpewood and are still struggling with the receptionist/s who think they are medical experts and telling them they are wrong about their own conditions…

Thank for such a positive review. It is appreciated. When a patient contacts the Surgery and there is a need to see a Doctor, the On Call Duty Doctor makes that clinical decision. Your comments evidence this is in place thank you. There are occasions when the appointment list is full and the GP will instruct the Reception to advise attendance at the Walk In Centre, based upon presentation dictating the patient needs to see a clinician that day. Thank you again. My regards. Andy A Cutting Practice Manager -
Very good practice

Thank you Thorpewood!
17th November 2022Having had a telephone consultation with a Health Care Professional at the practice I had been given a face- to- face appointment with one of the doctors. After an unrushed consultation and a medication adjustment I left the surgery with a referral and having benefitted from the knowledge, understanding and care that we all expect from a GP. My husband and I have been patients at this practice for 40+ years and as we have aged we find ourselves needing more regular contact with the practice. The nurses and receptionists though always busy, still make time for a cheery greeting. An unseen person speedily sends our presciption requests to the pharmacy. Yes, there's often a wait on the phone, but it's always a friendly, helpful, reassuring voice that will answer. Thorpewood, we thank you all!

Thorpewood
16th November 2022I have attend Thorpewood Surgery for many years. I have a complicated history including Spinal Surgery, Dr Hampshire has supported me through this very difficult journey. Together we have tried different opioid drugs. During difficult pain he has seen me every 6 weeks to adjust medication to find the right level . I have had many different referrals to other consultants that he has organised. This has been a positive experience.

things seem to be getting better!
15th November 2022I have had to use the surgery on several occasions in this past year. my initial experiences ( during covid) were quite hard, but things .. do seem to be improving. I have regular blood tests and these are always straightforward and done well. I have also been able to consult a GP, which has been a great relief. Thank you
