Karen was both very empathetic and full of practical advice; we also had a lively and enjoyable chat, which in my isolated situation means a lot to me, and left me feeling better able to get on with my day.

Looking after someone can leave so many of us feeling isolated, and it can be hard to know where to get the needed advice and support - and that is why we are here.
Please do contact us again if you need further support or advice; you are not on your own.
Contacted the service with very little knowledge looking for support and a listening ear, which I received

Many of us are not aware of what support may be available when we are caring for someone.
We are here to listen to people's situations. So we can then discuss the options available around what may be helpful, and give the personalised advice and support that is most beneficial.

I was referred by the Frailty Matron at the local GP Surgery who is supporting my mother.
I was given a self-referral form via email, which made think about all aspects of looking after my mother.
Carers Matter then contacted me via telephone shortly after.
It was nice to talk, where I didn’t think I would be able to talk about how I was feeling.
Florence made me feel at ease by sharing she had lived through similar experiences.
She made me feel not guilty about what I am currently experiencing and helped to put things into perspective.
Florence also shared practical solutions and coping strategies. Using these, I now feel I can have a day off for my own well-being and that’s OK. I can also go on holiday and have time to myself without feeling I am doing something wrong.
It’s OK to put myself first.
Thank you for all her help. It has made such a difference to how I am feeling and thinking.

The Advisor contacted me to agree a suitable time to explain my situation and was totally supportive especially when I was was struggling with stone emotions in providing responses - just what is needed. An Action Plan based on my initial assessment was e-mailed to me the same day. This helps me to keep focused on looking after myself as well as my husband. Lots of signposting even to issues not directly linked my carers role. I am so grateful for this help.

Carers Matter supported me when I was going through difficulties with a loved one with dementia. They helped me financially with support to get carer's allowance and by putting me forward for the Norfolk Millenium funding which allowed me to have free reflexology.

I cannot begin to explain just how valuable I found the phonecall with Tom. He absolutely understood everything I was speaking to him about and I came off the phone feeling so relieved that finally someone could "understand" my situation and actually listened to me instead of me coming up against a brick wall. He was able to explain to me what he thought I may be entitled to and offered to refer me to the right places for help, also supplying links for extra information too. I would not hesitate at all to recommend this service to other carers'-it is a lifeline!

I had no idea someone would contact me, but was very impressed with the care and attention that was given to my well being. I was particularly tired at that time, but was reassured help was at hand if needed. Tom was very patient and spent quite a bit of time speaking to me and understood what I was experiencing.

We are glad that you found the time speaking to Tom valuable.
It is important people looking after someone get the help and support they need. And the first step to that is often ensuring they have someone to listen to them and taking the time to understand their situation. Our team really do recognise the value in making sure your personal experience of caring and the issues you face are properly understood. Then you can be given the advice and support that is right for you.
