All services are free and available to people caring for another adult. Support is available to those caring for someone living in Norfolk, whether the carer lives in the county or elsewhere (caring at a distance). Carers Matter Norfolk is a carer-led service, putting you at the heart of everything that we do. The service offer is flexible in approach and tailored to meet what matters to you as an individual carer.
You can contact Carers Matter Norfolk to explain your situation and find out about the support that is right for you.
Tell us about your experience of using our service and help us to develop and improve it so we can reach more carers and ensure they have the right support to live well and independently.

I requested information about carer\'s breaks.
3rd January 2024I received a very helpful response to my enquiry from a member of your team who has put a plan together to help me organise my care role so that I can take a short break during the week whilst looking after my husband.

Comforting and empathetic
21st December 2023My wife aged 75 has Altzeimers and I am my wife's sole carer. I'm happy with this situation for the present and am not looking for help but Carers Matter Norfolk gave me the opportunity to share my experiences and for somebody to be aware that I existed. I had a long chat with Karen who seemed to understand my predicament and made me feel much better afterb our phone call.

We’re sorry you did not feel the conversation you had met the standards that we would expect. We do have a number of questions we ask all carers we speak with, this helps us understand different aspects of their situation. Many of the people we speak to have not been able to take time to think through the different ways their caring role is affecting them, or are not aware of all the support available to them. Do please contact us again and let us know if there are areas of your caring role that you feel in need of support with, which you don’t feel were covered in your call. And if you wish to give further feedback on your previous experience, do also let us have that when you get in touch. -
Helping Hands
5th December 2023Not every email or meeting is relevant to my needs as a carer but the fact that I am alerted via email to the help I could possibly need one day is very encouraging and thank you to all who work for and with carers. May you all be blessed.

Thank you for your feedback and kind words. We do believe it is important that unpaid carers get the support and information that is relevant to them in their present situation. And we also want carers to have an awareness of what else is available, if or when their circumstances change. Knowing help and support are available, and how to access them when needed make a big difference. -
Carers Matter is discriminating by not giving
27th November 2023I registred as unpaid career 9 years ago.My husband has biopolar disorder and shizoid personality disorder. In begining Carers Mater offered me comunity suport and helped ,but it all changed few years ago. They started to make coments that they think I am after money and grants.First time it was said by comunity adviser who was from Carers Matters. We needed bed as we did had not had one.She said :You are all after money."I did feel descriminated as it was very embarasing to be told that even we were strugling and I was sleeping on blown up air bed and suffered from back pain.Since then around ,starting 2 years ago it has become even worse. Everytime I turn to Carers Maters Norfolk I have been left feeling discriminated and denied any help. They make me feel like I am not worthy to any support and always turn me away. This makes me feel very deprest, having panick attacks because they are people who meant to represent suport for me but they are denying me any help. They say I am not entitled to help as I have been carer so long I sholuld go and look for help in comunity or GP.This is very unfair.I suffered so bad mental health and depression that I had panick attacks and could not cope because I felt left in total isolation from any support that was denied by the Carers Matter Norfolk when I needed it.I still need support but Carers Maters Norfolk is again turning me away.

Meaningful help when I needed it most
27th November 2023Having spent years caring for my husband, Mother and Sister I had reached a point of exhaustion and despair. The financial, physical and mental stress had taken its toll, when a social worker referred me to Carers Matter.
