No support for parents in their 90s

Submitted by Anonymous13th June 2023
As others have said it’s impossible to book appointments with a GP even when my parents have medical issues that need to be discussed face to face. I’m trying to get them appointments but it’s proved impossible to do so. A completely inadequate service.
The service provided is non existent. I concur with all the reviews and confirm you can’t see a doctor unless you have no life and am happy to sit on the phone I definitely from 8 am! To get to head of queue(45 mins later) to be told its fully booked. Same online. I expect to be able to ring in and get a non urgent appointment made by staff for the next week etc. but no. What do the receptionists do???!!! On the rare times I have got an appointment the surgery is empty and staff chatting away. Not work related. Whoever controls this group need to seriously sort it out. Every other docs people can ring in and get the service they require and the support from staff etc. not at Millwood! Misdiagnosed me for diabetes. And then get no support long term unless you spend your life fighting for your health. Absolutely disgusting and they should be ashamed that this is how people view them.
Staff genuinely consider patients to be an inconvenience. My GP is unhelpful and just focuses on cost cutting and money saving often to the detriment of my treatment and mental health.
Anything urgent is considered ‘routine’ by standards a few years ago. Reception staff never go the extra mile. Unhelpful, rude and answer the phone while eating
Have just contacted the surgery to find out about some blood tests that the doctor, on 12th May 2023 said he would request, only to be told that no request had been made.
The person who I was being spoken to in a very surly and rude way, which I felt there was no call for, because every time I tried to speak she just spoke over me, offered me an appointment with a take it or leave it attitude. Then she put the phone down. Polite she was not. Caring she was not. Helpful she was most certainly not.
Its extremely difficult to sometimes navigate the online service for help , so when you get a response of “you’ve filled in tge wrong form” its fustrating to think in the time to send that response the details could have just been copied and pasted onto the right form and helped the patient with their enquires,, jobsworths with no willingness to bend or help no wonder people give up seeking medical help
In 9 weeks I've tried 4 times to get an appointment...told not urgent...been to reception told to ring, came home a rang...no appointment need to ring tomorrow and stay in the queue...this surgery is a joke, misdiagnosed my cancer ...had phone call from nurse after operation to say they were there for me ...ring for anything but guess what ...NO YOU AREN'T... they say doctors are so busy ...3 people in surgery when I was there to see a receptionist that can't book appointments how stupid
I whent on Google for opening times the millwood surgery it told me it's open on Saturday so I whent up this morning its closed sort the website out if open or closed on Saturday
I have an irregular heart beat, so when I became unwell an found there was no appointments. I subsequently called 111, and an ambulance was sent. An hour later I was advised that the ambulance allocated to me was diverted to another incident, and that there would be no other ambulance available for approximately 4 hours. The Ambulance Service conducted a telephone triage, for which they asked that I contact the GP today for an appointment the following day.
I contacted the GP Surgery (Millwood), receptionist advised that they don’t arrange appointments for the following day, and that contact needs to be made Online. I explained that I have been referred by 111, & the ambulance service to arrange appointment for the following day but still didn’t listen, & in parrot fashion was told to apply online for an appointment.
I was so ill that evening that I had to attend the James Paget Hospital wasting more NHS time, money & resources to be told that I need GP appointment.
This morning at 8:09am applied online for an appointment to be advised that there are no appointments.
What do these doctors do?
Asked about face to face appointment but got told that I couldn’t have one in constant pain in my knees. I also suffer from long term mental health issues and am feeling very low and purely living in my mind and head and the help I received was pathetic to say the least had no understanding at all.
Then we wonder why mental health issues and suicide are so common now. NHS are a bloody joke when it comes to mental health illness.
At the last 'announced visit' and review by the CQC the practice was found to be good? Perhaps an un-announced review is due?
Apparently the practice has improved?
Do the CQC read or listen to genuine patient reviews?
I agree that there are some very good health care practitioners at the practice, in line with what other reviewers have highlighted.
The receptionists are in need of further people skills training.
The phone and online system need reviewing.
The general feeling is that you are continually facing the denial of an appointment with a GP at any cost.
Personally I have been told by a nurse, wrongly, that my painkiller medication was for blood pressure!
Because I was found to have extremely high BP on previous occasions, 262/90, this issue had previously been raised by a hospital consultant to the GP and had asked that this be investigated and referred back to him.
On a BP check appointment, at the practice, my BP was extremely high, the nurse referred to a Dr, who was on duty at the time, who prescribed additional BP medication. I mentioned that there were issues with my BP and any medication that I took and that I would need to discuss this with the GP. I raised the term 'labile,' this was not understood by the nurse. I mentioned contraindication to BP medication, this was ignored. I was denied the opportunity to speak to this GP and was told the medication was in line with protocol: Exactly, this was my issue, the GP had not read my notes!
After I had requested a subject access request, from the practice, I discovered that I had kidney disease that should, at a hospital consultants request, have been regularly monitored by the practice : It had been almost two years without reference to me! Do you read patients notes?
I had a GP letter stating I was urgently in need to be put on statins. Have you read my notes? Oh it would have been ok just that there could have been more bad side effects, I will check with a consultant and get back to you.
: Ten weeks ago and heard nothing.
Can I get a GP appointment online?
So it continues.....
