Breast screening

Had a appointment for Breast Screening, organisation of appointment, care at the screening and receiving results, all carried out smoothly, quickly and very professionally
Saw a consultant over the 2 week cancer guideline to start with but he was great and I thought we had a plan! . Due to start treatment within 31 days after agreeing care with another consultant. This hasn’t happening 9 weeks later. After waiting again over 1. 5 weeks for a callback. I’m on the wrong list for the wrong surgery. Clearly no one is reading patient files correctly in gynae. I’m told my surgery is urgent so imagine my shock to find out the treatment plan agreed isn’t happening as no one read my file correctly of what was agreed and how very serious this is and then finding out the surgery list I’m on is for the wrong surgery. Someone else promised to ring me back. No call. They need to treat cancer referral as per guidelines. I mean 9 weeks! Be 10 soon. Also consultant I was put on list with doesn’t have specialist training to do my surgery either as on wrong consultant list as well as very serious condition which is growing very fast literally.

Elderly care

My 82 year old Husband has been admitted to hospital 6 times since Christmas, three times since he has been in a care home. He has mixed dementia among other problems . On one occasion he was sent home to me minus all his personal clothing never to be returned, On the same occasion he was wearing a pad which was filthy with excrement resulting in a nappy type rash. On Thursday the 12th May he had a fall resulting in another night in hospital. He was discharged on Friday the 13th and did not get back to his care home until 10.00pm very tired and more confused than normal. My Husband has a permanent catheter as he has been unable to pass urine without one for around 5 years. Whilst in the acute medical ward his catheter was removed and not replaced, resulting with the care home having to get the District nurse out to him to replace it . His hospital records show all his medical health problems . To remove a catheter and replace it is a very serious situation indeed. To discharge any patient at an unreasonable hour is bad enough but for an elderly person suffering from dementia is absolutely diabolical. I cannot praise the A&E depth or the ambulance crew enough , its the wards which need addressing.

A&E visit due to temp spike while on Chemo

Following a call with the chemo helpline, I was sent to A&E as no beds or rooms available anywhere else for an assessment. I have a chemo card that states if I've had a temp I should be seen within an hour. When I arrived I had to have a covid test- results took 1.5 hours and then I was told there was a 6 hour wait for the doctor! By this time my temp had subsided so I decided to go home. Since then I've been told I was very lucky- I'm neutropenic and wide open to infection so should have been seen immediately for bloods and antibiotics.

inflatable beds not ideal

I had a major op - intensive care were marvellous, but when first out from an operation you need comfort - the inflatable bed you are put on kept going down - so you lay on a very hard bed. An alarm goes off to say the bed has gone down and continues until it is fixed which is stressful after an operation when you are trying to get better, and because of staff pressures they take ages to come and fix it - then it goes down again and the alarm goes off again and it all starts again.

I'm just recently out of the Norfolk and Norwich hospital and I cannot say enough for them - absolutely brilliant. The food wasn't great though, it was all very samey - lots of cheese!
Husband had excellent treatment I n A&A before taken onto a ward. Apparently when on the ward he pulled out his cannula and spilt juice all over the floor. When I visited it had dried and had not been cleaned up. I had to clean his bedside table which was dirty. His glasses also went missing. This is the fourth time he has been in hospital this year, every time his clothing or personal items have gone missing. I have no complaints about his treatment in A&E it was excellent. But can’t afford to keep losing things. His glasses cost me £500 a few months ago.
