Oh I think they're great here! Very patient on the phone, I've always had a Dr ring me back and get follow up bloods appointment.

I do agree you can't get through on the phone very well but the receptionist said about on-line service. What Is Brilliant they get back to you really quickly. The doctors are all so good and give you time and really check you over

Can only see a nurse

I don’t know if this practice is short staffed but can’t get appt to see doctor. Can’t even get a telephone answered! “The queue is full, ring again” is not acceptable four days in a row! How are they going to cope if the new houses are built, they can’t cope now!

Requesting Procedure to Have Ears Tested
1
Submitted by Anonymous23rd February 2022
My first call to Caister Surgery was answered by a person with an accent, which was especially difficult having a hearing problem. I was told a Doctor would call me back. Several days later a Doctor, who also had an accent called me back and said he would get a Nurse to call me to arrange an appointment. Very soon after this a Nurse called me and an appointment was made for about a week later. Is it no longer possible to call the practice and make an appointment to see a nurse straight away? What a rigmarole to even start with. Anyway last Monday I eventually saw a young male nurse, also with an accent and a mask (doubly difficult) who looked in my ears to tell me that the wax needed removing which I already knew, and who appears to have completely misinformed me. He suggested I go somewhere like Boots for ear wax removal in the first instant pointing out it was no longer carried out by the NHS. In the meantime I was to put drops of oil in my ears twice a day for about 2 weeks. This is what I have been doing. This morning I went to the GY Hearing Centre after being redirected there by GY Boots who do not remove wax at all, where the Receptionist was horrified when I told her I'd been advised to put drops in my ears. Apparently this makes wax removal very much more difficult now that the micro-suction method is the norm. I'm now having to let my ears dry out before I can have the wax removed. So this is the reason I am emailing. Please inform all your Practice Nurses that they should no longer be telling people to put drops in their ears to soften the wax it is completely wrong. Neither the GY Hearing Centre or GY Specsavers syringe ears any more and GY Boots don't remove wax at all.

Important to know your GP

I think it doesn't work to have so many surgeries with the GPs moving between them. You need a regular Doctor, for example mine knows my allergies. They get to know your body and what you need, but this is harder with so many surgeries to cover. I also find it difficult that you can only come about one health complaint at a time, I often have several issues at once. When I'm telling them about my issues I think they could listen a bit better because they're so busy taken notes I worry they miss what I'm saying to them.
10 minutes also doesn't feel like long enough for an appointment, I think it should go back to the old system where it varies depending on the patients needs.

I think the surgery are doing a fine job, but I don't think patients are seeing doctors enough. I don't always want a phone appointment, it would be nice to have more choice.

I've just moved back to Caister so I've been with the surgery a matter of weeks. I attended for the Flu Clinic and it was an excellent first impression, much better than my old surgery.

Bit of a job to see a Doctor

Submitted by Anonymous27th September 2021
I attended a flu clinic here and it was great, quick as anything. I do find it a bit of a job to see a doctor though, and it can be difficult to get through on the phone. They tell you to ring up at 8 and you can't get through, then it says appointments are full. I have also had a few times where my medication has been wrong, it was the wrong amount and the Dr didn't know why.
