My husband used A&E a few weeks ago and it was very good. They were able to see him within an hour at the minor injuries unit.

Appointments run really late

The eye clinic never runs on time. I waited hours for my appointment - I was there all afternoon. But once I was in front of a practitioner the treatment was fine.

Peaceful end of life care

My husband had both chemo and radiotherapy at the N&N, and I've got nothing but praise for what the staff did to help him. Everyone was lovely, and there was always someone on the end of a phone to talk to if I need it. In the end the cancer spread to his brain and there was nothing they could do, but the way they managed his symptoms and the end of life care he had at home was really peaceful. I couldn't have asked for him to go a nicer way.

Problems every time my husband is admitted

Submitted by Lynne Dunham21st April 2019
We have had numerous problems over the last 6 years with the N and N in particular the medical wards when my husband who has had a bad stroke is admitted From simply stopping his medication without bothering to ask him or me his wife and full time carer why he was on it to erroneous recording in his notes and lack of physiotherapy input to ensure his mobility was maintained whilst in the acute hospital As a retired qualified senior physiotherapist / NHS manager and my husband being a retired Director of Nursing we do know what the standards should be and when they are lacking the N and N is going to be told about it

Minor operation led to sepsis
1
Submitted by Anonymous17th April 2019
My husband got sepsis after a very minor operation, which he eventually died from. Up until then he was in good health and hadn't really ever been ill. It was such a shock that I wasn't even able to think about raising legal proceedings against the hospital for a long time. It took a couple of years for me to build up the courage to start the process, but I was told I wasn't able to because I didn't transfer the case to a solicitor quickly enough. This catch wasn't communicated to me well enough at the time and in the months following his death - something needs to be done about it.

Not aware of medical history

Submitted by Anonymous16th April 2019
My brother has to go for yearly scans, as he is paralysed from the waist down. When he visits they are generally not aware of his medical conditions - on a couple of occasions they have tried to get him to stand up for his scan.

Need more neurological advice
2
Submitted by Anonymous16th April 2019
I find that neurologists ignore a lot of things half the time. They don't want to know. When I had my assessment they just gave me a diagnosis then said off you go, now almost 18 months down the line I've had no follow up. It's really hard, I've completely lost all my memory. More research needs to be done in to non-epileptic seizures, no NHS service seems to be able to give me advice.

Always a bit late

I often have to wait a bit at haematology. Appointments are nearly always a bit late, but when you're in front of a practitioner it's fine. Some of the waiting areas are a bit crowded as well, it's just so busy.

Over 80s mobility clinic is very good

Submitted by Anonymous5th April 2019
The staff at the Over 80s mobility clinic have been very good. They came to our home and fitted a paddle on the bed to help me get out of bed easily. They rang me up a few weeks later to see how I was doing, and even wanted to know how we managed to get our bins out - very thorough!
