Quieter than the NNUH wards

It's a nice quieter place to be then the NNUH wards
The staff and volunteers are very friendly.
Doctors visit daily and give more time than the NNUH
Food is good on the whole and always sent out at good times with efficacy.
This current ominously is pain specialist, much more emphasis is put on pain relief than other places I have been to.
I was told to come here by NNUH for the better pain management and better psychology as in NNUH I was not getting enough-I have terminal spine cancer at 40 years old.
During my time here I've been in a wheelchair 3 times in 3 weeks.
I like to have curtains around my bed for my own privacy I suffer from migraines because of this I've felt penalised because I'm different, or feel like I'm up to something.
At 40 the food portion size is not adequate for me, I could see it if I was a 70 year old man but since I'm not I've been buying food to make it up. Only recently was I made aware that I can ask for more food but was not made aware.
I feel just because I'm 40 and not 70 treatment shouldn't be difficult

Care from HCA, Nurses and Doctors outstanding

Submitted by Lesley Matthews16th January 2023
My care from HCAs, Nurses and Doctors has been outstanding. All the work that I've seen from the domestic team has also been very thorough and as far as I can see they do an excellent job. My biggest concern is the lack of personnel on the ground at times. This can lead to having to wait at times for essential pain relief etc.
The main complaint that I have is the very poor quality of the food. We are told that it travels from another country so no surprise that we struggle to enjoy it. We all agree that food should be a major ingredient in the recovery of patients. I assure you I am not exaggerating.
This hospice is a peaceful and caring place. Patients should look forward to mealtimes and it certainly isn't the case at the moment.

I am very scared

Very disgruntled at having to be on the same ward or hospital as people with covid. There still should be wards set aside for these people away from the clear people to help top the spread. My wife will no longer visit me so until I am better or live through this I shall not see my spouse or daughter if ever again. I am very very scared

The volunteers on PBL have been outstanding, offering practical help (meals, drinks) to emotional support when it all gets too much. They are quietly available and sensitive to our needs, making us laugh or offering a hand to hold. Thank you.

I had been suffering with my shoulder for 2-3 years, after a frozen shoulder issue. I saw Jibril in October and after just one visit with exercises given, the improvement was remarkable.
This has continued to improve and he gave me more exercises today. This is the best it has been for years!!
Thank you once again Jibril.

Husband Isolated and Ignored
2
Submitted by Collected via Healthwatch Norfolk post box30th November 2022
My husband was admitted to Beech Ward after a stroke in February 22 after having spent a few weeks at the N&N. We were assured that the therapy he had had there would continue at Beech, in fact it would be better and more constant.. That has not been the case. The first week seemed to start well enough but after he suffered a short infection of shingles he was moved to a single ward and everything seemed to stop. He was moved from single ward to single ward where it seemed no therapists were allowed to visit! In all those months during afternoon visits I have seen very little - although after a battle I did manage to get him moved back to a 4 bed ward. He has been isolated and ignored for too long. Therapy appears to be only for a chosen few.
